I explore the invisible distance that can exist between two people when feelings remain unspoken.
I painted the feeling of thinking of someone despite telling myself not to — like ripples spreading across water.
I capture the quiet tension and anticipation between two people, like the stillness just before the wind begins.
I painted the quiet ache of touching someone when you know that it may be the last time.
The space
between people.
I am Kiyo Aono, a Japanese self-taught oil painter based in Japan. I explore the emotional space between people — moments of love, memory, distance, longing, silence, and the passage of time.
Through faces, gestures, gaze, light, and color, I try to hold emotional moments that cannot always be spoken or resolved. My recent work also turns toward moments of transition — the quiet threshold between what has been and what is yet to come, and the decision to move forward with my own feet.
